The 1990s was a decade about comfort and casual clothing. During this time men and women favored jeans, sneakers and sweatshirts. Dresses were also toned down quite a bit, especially when compared to the over the top fashion of the 1980s. Floral patterns and wrap-style dresses became popular during the '90s. For dressing up, the look was still quite simple but beautiful in an understated way. Long ballgowns were generally more fitted, with little cup sleeves and delicate embellishments. Party dresses were usually short, and would use one or two colors with just one unique feature such as a big bow. The favored colors for party dresses in the 1990s were black and white.
The hairstyles of the 1990s were much softer and straighter than in the 1980s. If you plan on wearing your hair down, put a few long, loose curls in to give you that wind-swept look. Or, if you plan on wearing your hair up, go for a soft, loose bun or a half-up, half-down look.
